Nos cedamus amor (let us yield to love)
Love is the emblem of eternity, it confounds the notion of time, effaces all memory of a beginning, all fear of an end…
In the Nineteenth Century, cupids, flowers were all symbols of love, popular themes for the jewelry which was so frequently given as a token of affection. As in this pair of rare coral cherub earrings from Victorian era.
Cherubs have been portrayed in various forms, the Victorians had a true passion for the angel-like figures used to convey a spectrum of emotions including romance and love.
Here a romantic and powerful symbol contained gracefully in a pair of Victorian natural coral handcarved cherub earrings presumably Italian.
A wonderfullly hand carved coral composition showcasing two cherubs with fine features of wavy hair, chubby cheeks delicately rendered, carved wings , each framed by graceful ornaments all rendered in perfectly matched coral.
