Description
My thoughts are for thee
Used extensively throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, enigmatic meanings were assigned to a wide variety of flowers and flora motifs, all arrangements to convey feelings and sentiments without the use of words.
History, style and aesthetics rule with this natural pearl ruby and turquoise flower pansy ring from Victorian era.
The pansy flower is an example. The word itself is believed to be a distortion of the French word “pensee” (thought). Soon the flower itself became synonymous with the phrase “thinking of you” and thus began a language all its own with flowers as expression of sentiment and love.
Surrounding a center set round cut natural ruby of approx .02 Ct, a trio of natural pearl halves unite with a two drop shape turquoise cabochons in a foliate cluster representing a pansy
The luminous surfaces of the pearls are well paired with the glow of the luscious center gem and the turquoises splash of colour. Hand rubbed-over pinched collet mounts provide an extra special air of masterful detail with the ridged texture adding to the overall charm.
Dramatically ornate, the yellow gold mounting flows from flower to organic forms re-defined through the eye of a jeweler. Delicate textural accenting stimulate the senses without excess.
Artfully hand crafted in 9 Kt yellow gold during Romantic period of Victorian era.
Very good overall condition commensurate to use and age.
